Ron Paul

October 31st, 2007 | Category: Politics, Thoughts

As a fairly middle-of-the-road unaffiliated voter, I generally avoid recommending political candidates (mostly because they’re all pretty much the same).  Recently, however, I’ve found myself becoming more and more excited about Ron Paul and his views…enough so that I’m actually going to be registering as a republican in order to vote for him in the primaries.  I’ve also decided that it’s my duty as an American to take a somewhat more active role in the political process.

This doesn’t mean that I’m about to launch into some long rant about Ron Paul, or start harassing people about their views.  It does, however, mean that I want to at least recommend that people look into Ron Paul.  That’s how I discovered him after all…it was a co-worker, Mike Toles, who simply suggested, “Google Ron Paul.”  When I finally did, I liked what I saw.

So that’s all I’m suggesting here:  Simply type his name into Google or YouTube.  I think his views and voting record speak for him better than my crappy little blort could, anyway.  Specifically, I’ve rather enjoyed the writings that can be found on his official campaign website.

So there you have it.  My official endorsement of Ron Paul.  If you decide you don’t like him, though, remember…vote for me.

In the mood I’m in right now, this video was somehow really depressing…

Cleanliness is…

October 23rd, 2007 | Category: Thoughts

Our aparment had been a horrendous mess for awhile now.  This weekend we finally cleaned it up.  I feel much better.

I can never fully function in a messy house.  It just gets to me on some kind of obsessive-compulsive level.  When everything is in disarray, I feel like I can’t even think.

Needless to say, I plan to keep things looking this way for as long as possible.

This was the most insignifigant update in the history of cutaia.net…

Phones…

October 22nd, 2007 | Category: Thoughts

I was startled a bit when the phone rang tonight.

This jolt was a direct result of the new telephones I had installed in the apartment.  I hadn’t yet heard their rings, so the sudden sound of Autumn calling was much louder and more dissonant than I was used to.

The realization that followed, however, was almost more troublesome:  I had plugged the new phones in several days ago.  I had been home all weekend, and hadn’t heard them ring once.

It’s obvious that I need to keep in better touch with my friends.  It’s gotten to the point where they don’t even call me on the weekends anymore, because they know that I won’t want to do anything.

Most of the time I live like a hermit.  I don’t usually enjoy going out, instead preferring that people come to my home.  The only problem is that I enjoy throwing parties less each year, too.  In recent times, they’ve become more of a hassle then anything.

So this is what happens.  People call less and less until I don’t even know the sound of my own phones.

Fortunately, there’s a big Halloween party this weekend.  I’ll be making an appearance there, so that’s a start at least…

3 years of cutaia.net…

October 16th, 2007 | Category: Thoughts

Sunday was this website’s 3rd anniversary.  As always, it came and went without any fanfare.

I keep promising myself that I’m going to do something to celebrate these milestones, but I never do.  Come to think of it, though…I’m not sure what I even could do.

I suppose releasing one of my long overdue albums or movies would have been a good start (If only any of them were completed).  I’ve also been working on a new site design that will hopefully make browsing a more intuitive and efficient experience…but alas, that is also a few weeks away.

Fortunately, it’s not as though I have a lot of “fans” waiting for any of these things.  My audience is made up of a few regulars and the occasional strange search term hit.  In fact, aside from my issues with updating and aknowledging milestones, the only real constant over the last three years has been my steadily declining traffic.

So, here we are.  Another anniversary has passed, and nobody cares…not even I.  At least I took the time to edit this old logo to make it more current:

I guess that counts for something.

An Update

October 08th, 2007 | Category: Thoughts

I finally posted an update last night after about two weeks of maintained internet silence…

This isn’t the first time I’ve slacked on updates.  In fact, there have been far more lengthly lapses in content than this.  Earlier this year I went an entire three months without an update (unless you count the uploading of a 5 year old crappy techno song that I had made from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon audio clips).  Several other times, the site has seen month-long periods where nothing happened…usually ending in half-hearted promises to myself that it wouldn’t happen again.  In the grand sceme of things, the recent two week hiatus wasn’t a big deal.

In the world of the web, though, it was surely a killer.

Updating it seems is just the cruel reality of running a website.  One must update consistantly and constantly, or risk losing the (for lack of a better word) “fanbase.”  It’s amazing how fast a lack of updates can kill a website’s viewership.  The internet is like this big dumb hungry dog, and if you don’t feed it daily, it will move on and find someone who will.  It’s loyalty is based mostly on routine.

It’s funny…I’ve been updating quite regularly for months now, and during that time I’ve watched the stats slowly but surely climbing.  I had even started to notice familiar ip addresses checking for updates daily.  Once a few days went by without an update, though, those numbers plummeted to even lower than they were a few months ago.  Now I suppose I’ll have to pump out content for another few months to get them all back.

That’s alright, though.  I’m not complaining.  I realized a long time ago that this website will never amount to anything…but I’ve also realized that I do it all for myself, and no one else.  It’s just more fun with a few people along for the ride is all…

The one consolation in my mind is the fact that I really do feel I’ve had a good reason for slacking this time.  I know I’ve said that before, but this time it’s true.  I’ve been working on the filming and post-production of my first feature-length film, which has taken up a considerable amount of time.  I’ve also been hard at work on my new website, the running of which just may end up being my dream job one day.  I’ve even been doing some work on completing my first album (due out since 2001).  Between all of that stuff and my recent Final Fantasy XII obsession, I’ve been pretty much fucking busy.

But that’s life I suppose…on the internet at least.
