π, Tesseracts, and Busy Beavers…
Last week, I finally watched π, a movie I’ve been wanting to see since 1998. It was a neat little film about a mathematician who believes that numbers can be used to explain everything in the universe…even God or the stock market. More recently, I found myself researching tesseracts and other 4-dimensional objects on Wikipedia, just trying to understand them. I spent a few hours pondering the concept until it finally made sense. Then, last night I spent an hour being simply enthralled by a piece on quantifying large numbers, which introduced me to the concepts of the Ackermann and Busy Beaver functions. It’s been a fascinating week for me.
It’s times like these that I wish I had been a mathematician. Maybe I’d have been good at it.
