Re: Congratulations Republicans!

April 29th, 2008 | Category: Politics

You know, this reminds me of what I was saying back in January.  Had Huckabee supporters rallied behind Ron Paul back then, he might have had a real chance.  Their combined 27% showing even after the race is all but won, proves that.  Paul’s problem was always his lack of exposure, but with 20-30% showings he could have finally gotten the fair coverage needed to reach the rest of America.

Congratulations Republicans!

April 29th, 2008 | Category: Politics

More than 800,000 Republicans voted in the Pennsylvania primary last week, and out of those 27% voted against McCain.  16% cast ballots for Ron Paul, while 11% chose Huckabee, who dropped out of the race long ago.

Somehow, neoconservative Republicans still think that they can win this November with McCain, despite the fact that they can’t even get their own party members to vote for him (when he’s already been anointed the presumptive nominee).  I mean, at this point shouldn’t each remaining primary just be a show of support for the winner?  Apparently not, because 1 in 4 GOP voters just don’t seem convinced that the promise of a hundred year war can beat the Democrats this year.  So, congratulations to the Republican Party!  By picking McCain as your candidate, you’ve certainly secured a winner this year:  Anyone but McCain!

The Earth Day Story

April 21st, 2008 | Category: Awesome!, Stupid

With tomorrow being Earth Day, I thought I’d share a story as told to me by my co-worker, Mike Toles (paraphrased, of course):

When I was younger my politics were a lot more liberal.  In my early 20s, I was working at one of my first corporate jobs.  I went into the breakroom one day to get coffee, and this guy was in there washing out a mug.  It was close to Earth Day, so for some reason I asked him, “So…what are you doing for Earth Day?”

He was so startled that I had asked that particular question that he actually dropped his mug, completely shattering it in the sink.  He let out a disappointed groan and told me that he had owned the mug for 15 years or something; it had apparently held some kind of sentimental value to him.

Now that I think about it, it was kind of a stupid question…

How will we be remembered?

April 16th, 2008 | Category: Thoughts

Pictures from the 1800s give us the impression that people never smiled back then.  Of course, that rough and tough pose was just a result of the sheer length of time required to take a picture with their technology.  Likewise, audio limitations at the dawn of the Hollywood era forced actors to talk in an over-enunciated style that made them all appear to be strong, intelligent people of character.

It’s fitting that in this age of reality television and high definition everything we’ll be able to pass on an artistic legacy that, for once, truly illustrates the people of our society accurately:  As weak, stupid and totally fucked up.

SPRING!

April 15th, 2008 | Category: Thoughts

Spring officially began for me today.  It was beautiful, and that “spring” feeling was in the air.  I even dusted off my copy of King Missile’s VulvaVoid.  It was that nice.

Trumpy, you can do magic things!

Alright, so I really only posted this YouTube video of an elephant painting an elephant so I could make the outdated Mystery Science Theater reference in the title. The video itself is still pretty cool, though.

Simple.  Terrible.  Yet, hilarious and enthralling.
