The New Yorker does John McCain…
Regardless of my feelings on the subject, I can certainly understand why the Obama campaign might not appreciate the recent New Yorker cover.
From the Lew Rockwell Blog today:
No one would do such a cover of McCain, playing into the most damaging rumors, but imagine this: a jaunty young John, in his pilot uniform, sitting comfortably and chatting with his Vietnamese captors. Two gorgeous gals serve his every wish. He is smoking a cigar and drinking a martini. In the next room other POWs are being intensively interrogated. Ha ha, Republicans?
Well, Lew…that’s a good point. Taking your cue, I asked Jeremy Glass to draw a little something up, so we could all see what that would look like. Personally, I think we’ve got a masterpiece on our hands, but I’m certain McCain would disagree.

[…] The New Yorker Does McCain Not really, but artist Jeremy Glass and blogger Brian Cutaia made the following picture on their website: […]
Hanoi Hilton concierge service for songbirds and VIPs depicted accurately! Say, isn’t that Monica’s mom?
The VERY yellow teeth are a nice touch.
Wonderful! And this doesn’t even get into his dumping his crippled first wife for Cindy. Maybe we need a series of McCain covers.
I hear he even got Hilton Honors points!
My new wallpaper!!!!!
Thanx!

Are you people slow to remember the vietnam war. I am a vet. What I see is that the Dem. liberals are Still spitting in our faces and calling us baby killers! How many of you have served your country without question!I enlisted before I was drafted. This cover is a slap in the face of every US vet since 1776.I am ashamed of all of you.Do you know where the red came from in the red, white&blue,Its our blood!
If only this joke were about Vietnam vets, the military, Republicans, conservatives or even John McCain himself…then you sir would not sound like such an idiot right now.

The New Yorker cover has power, but not for the reason that you think it does Olympic Pary Blog. It is powerful satire of people like you who actually believe the smears that it portrays. There isn’t a “kernel of truth” in any of what they depict and that is why it is satire.
Interesting that you comment on this blog by linking to yours, (full of too much nonsense to discuss in this comment) but yet you have closed comments on your blog.
What’s up? Affraid of having your weak arguments dissected on your on site?
It’s funny cuz it’s true.
DIGG it
Chris: The segment from the Olympic Party blog automatically posted here simply because they linked to this entry. That’s “blog” software for you. Still, disallowing comments for any reason is strictly for pussies
Anyway…
If OP thinks that our cartoon doesn’t have the same “power” as the New Yorker cover, there’s probably an even more plausible reason: Our version was conceived and drawn by a couple of jackasses during breaks at work…just ’cause we thought it would be funny to see.
Sorry, we didn’t move the world with that action, Olympic Party. We’ll work on that next week.
SSSSSNap!
I think the Vietnam POW is for the most part legend and myth. I doubt the torture existed and think the US POWs exaggerated as no other the state of their captivity. I would tend to believe the recent article in Time Magazine where JSM’s friends in Vietnam (over 10 visits) deny they tortured PWs. I suppose we would not believe the ICC or International Red Cross or historians. Further it is a sad commentary to see the “POW/MIA” flag flying all the time; with our heroes head down - it is not the sign of a warrior but of a defeated person. I doubt there is a MIA or POW in the world today, but the people who love to wrap themselves in Old Glory perpetuate these myths. I would worry how an Afghan Taliban would treat an American POW; but the Vietnamese are a different breed. They welcome Americans in Vietnam even in the North. We are loved there despite the rhetoric of Swift Boat losers; Bud Days and the rest of that ilk.
I am so ashamed of John McCain & Sarah Palin!!
